I don't hold much faith in climate change but the seasons do seem to be sliding. June and July were more like Spring than Summer. August was like a monsoon and now September has brought us day after day of 90+ degree weather. So I have been using the garden hose and a root feeder to water the Fir trees I planted in our Enchanted Forest about 8 years ago. I can tell you that those trees have really grown. They were only about 5' tall when I planted them but now they are almost 20' tall. Here's a picture taken 7 years ago and it has just made me feel cool and comfortable looking at it.
And here are my Fir trees today. When we walk in between these trees it is like going into a forest. Oh, by the way, we all went for a walk in the woods today. I had to move the hose from one tree to another and I brought my helpers along.
I think we should have taken along a bowl for some water.
It was hot.
Lovely pictures, Nelson. I notice your trees are not turning yet. Fall is in full force here with the beautiful colours bittersweet as they remind me of the cold winter that is sure to follow.
ReplyDeleteElla, we went the whole Summer with only 2 or 3 days with 90+ temps and then September began and we had all 90+ temp days. It just started cooling off a few days ago. We had a fairly rainy Summer as well and that has some affect on the colors. Maybe October will look more seasonal. The Rottweilers and me both would rather see snow than bitter cold.
DeleteHi Nelson, I'm new to blogging and I chose your blog because I figured you would have a lot of experience with Rotties. My girl is a Romanian just turned 12 years old and we adopted her 9 years ago, I've never owned a dog before her. She is my heart, I quit my full-time job in July so that I could be with her because she was diagnosed with spondylosis in her spine and I can see her health deteriorating daily, I think she may have some form of cancer too just because her weight is decreasing very quickly. I absolutely love her, she's my shadow even though my husband adopted her for him. I don't know how much time she has, I know that a huge piece of my heart will be gone soon. As much as I love her, I can never imagine getting another one. They are incredible family members that know how you're feeling and what you're thinking. Just in case I miss the big party, 14 is definitely a whopper party, Happy Birthday Axl! ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
ReplyDeleteDee, thank you for following my blog. I am so sorry to hear about the tragic illness that has befallen on your adopted Rottie girl. I hope that she is not in any pain as that would only make your own suffering even greater. My first Rottweiler, Mocha, was very special to me also and we raised her from a puppy. By the time she was 12 we had also adopted both her adult parents, her mother Felony lived with us for 5 years and her father Nikko for 9 years plus a rescued female Rottie pup and acquired one male, Ruff, from a breeder. One thing I can tell you from experience is once you have one you never want to live without one. Some people say you become addicted to the breed because they steal your heart.
DeleteThe hardest part is letting them go. I had to put Mo to sleep a few weeks before her 13th birthday. She had a strong will to live and she overcame a stroke that had briefly paralyzed her hind legs when she was 9 years old and was active until the last year she was alive. But things got worse and I thought I could help her deal with her problems but I was only postponing the inevitable. It was only when I realized I was doing her more harm than good I brought her to the Vet to be euthanized. I have never been without at least two Rottweilers in the last 20 years so I don't know what you are facing. Now I am 75 and I realize my young girl Bess will have to be my last one and I hope we can grow old together. Axl has such a devotion to my wife that I know he is holding himself together to stay with her as her Alzheimer's runs its course. That is why each of his birthdays become so special. Thank you for sharing your story. God Bless you.
A very happy 14th birthday Axl! ♡ ♡ ♡
