We have adopted another Rottie

The most fortunate thing occurred a few days ago, a friend on Facebook alerted me to a young male Rottweiler that was coming up for adoption from a rescue group up in Ohio. I made contact with Molly Murray the founder and director of Pawsitive Warriors Rescue of New Carlisle, Ohio and after checking my Facebook page and this blog felt that I was the best candidate for the adoption.

Today, our latest Rottweiler has arrived. Many thanks to Molly Murray for transporting him almost 100 miles to my home. So here he is. His name is Bruno and he is 15 months old. He is a pedigreed Rottweiler and he was just neutered a few days ago. I mention that fact because he has a magnificent shaped head, just like Ruffin had after we waited two years to have him neutered.

And, if I may borrow the title from that old TV show, now I can finally say: Eight Is Enough

And he looks like the spitting image of Ruffin when he was Bruno's age.
And now we will have many new stories to write about.

  1. He is very beautiful! And you can look in his face and see just how young he really is! He still has those puppy eyes!

How does Bessie feel about her new companion?

  2. On another note, when we got our Rottie Zeke 3 years ago, I read a lot about the best time to neuter them. It was interesting to read how a lot of people think you should wait until they (dogs of the bigger breeds, like Rotties) are 1 - 2 years old to allow their bodies to develop more fully, like they are supposed to.

As we were scheduling Zeke's last round of puppy shots at 15 weeks, our vet asked me if I wanted to schedule him to be spayed at that time because "that is when it is usually done"

I declined, 1) because the reasoning of waiting made a lot of sense to me and 2) because we want to keep our options open for breeding him.

I always heard it was best to get dogs like Rotties fixed when they were/are young, before their personalities have a chance to develop. I actually think this is a scare tactic people have against large dog breeds though.

Either way, the two schools of thought are certainly interesting.
